Stripes have been conquering the fashion industry since a very long time and they will for some time to come. Now is the time for interiors to get influenced by this trend. And why not, since the play of lines have so much emotion involved in it. You can feel a lot of things with different placement of stripes. Various ways that stripes are placed, intricate, vertical versus horizontal, everything has a different story to narrate.

The casual and not caring kind of people would go for this one. The stripes are very comfortably placed at a distance with each other and do not really attract any eye. It is a good way to hide chaos inside (Pun intended).

The stripes a well-planned but carefully placed. They are on their way to become bold but are not exactly there. The balance between bold and classic is clearly visible. You would probably be a fashionista, if you go for this stripe.

What is the real meaning of the term, ‘Design Intervention’ ?

As discussed with the lead design team of Peeli Dori, Design Intervention is something which we call as modifying things to allocate them for a better and modern purpose. Rather than innovating completely, you modify and enhance the functional and aesthetic characteristics of a product. It is design intervention.

Peeli Dori offers bespoke design services. They deal with handcrafting techniques of India and therefore use design intervention as the major technique to make crafts or handcrafting techniques more purposeful in the urban scenario.

A creative design is one with functional aesthetics. We consider a collection of Peeli Dori to understand the design process followed by them.

Product Realization

The first step which takes place is the analysis of product requirement in the niche market. With time people preferences and habits change. The mode they are following at a certain point of time determines the product that they would readily want to go for. A consumer analysis is done to figure out an oppurtunity area/sector. This determines and indicates major insights for the process ahead. It also gives a fair idea of the product category. This is the stage where maximum research takes place.

 

Trend Study

After it becomes clear which product category we are dealing with, trend study takes place. The forecast is referred to. In case of the VANN collection, forests and their shades were taken from the trends of 2017 as inspiration. Trends give a lot of detailed information about what people will like in a certain time from now.

Theme

The collection now comes down to the conceptualization stage. Every insight till now is put together to form a story and which is then taken as a theme for the final design.

Here the forests were taken as the theme. The colours and the patterns, extracted from forests were put together to create a theme board/inspiration board.

Mood-board

Mood-board is the stage where the look of the product is determined. How the product shall feel like as an end result and what kind of vibes it will give is stated in visual format. The Mood-board of VANN collection states features like minimalism, green shades, geometric and tactile. It gives insights to decide on the design conceptualization.

Design Conceptualization

After the above stages, starts the real design. It is where the real conceptualization happens to form the real design. From the choice of materials to the form and structure, everything is decided and given a real body. How the technique will follow the modern design is the major manifesto of Peeli Dori design team at this stage.

Peeli Dori designs to intervene the roots of the technique used to completely change the look of it as a final outcome.

In VANN collection hand knitting is used to give a tactile service and its a complete new look in terms of knitted products.

Demonetization-For the better or worse?

Demonetization has been a lot talked about a lot lately. People of different backgrounds, generously have given their views on it and  on various platforms. Being a citizen of India, one has every right to do the same. Both negative and positive feedback were recorded.

Tycoons have played an important role in terms of being affected by the decision.

Opinions were shared, protests were done but the real people facing it to the core had no power to do anything. As every other time they were content with whatever they have, or even if they don’t have anything. The real business cores of India, our artisans faced demonetization and did not even complain about the hardships they had to and are still facing because of it. Their revenue went down in huge numbers, because people choose to better pay in digital money, than cash. They say something good might happen and are still hoping for the best future as a society. These people have a positive ray of hope in their eyes and that is why they are a part of the Peeli Dori family.

Every artisan connected to us was taken care of, still they had to face certain challenges on a personal level. It becomes difficult for an individual who is very exposed to the forward banking systems, to handle such a hassle.

Being a viewer of what they were doing to earn their daily living and also facing the impact of demonetization, I was astonished by the kind of positivity by which everyone looked forward to by that act. Every artisan was dealing in cash. All they earned in a day was enough for their livelihood for the next day. For them the economy of the country and the so called GDP growth did not matter. Suddenly everything was affecting their daily ‘Dhanda’. That’s what they call their daily activity as.

”I am a common citizen of India like all the other artisans of the country and I still tell myself- Let’s take a risk and follow this decision also. Who knows it might just change the face of India. There were days during this tenure of demonetization when a lot of people in this country slept with just a mere hope of a better future and no food.” Says one artisan and entrepreneur connected to Peeli Dori. This was her view point on the topic of demonetization.

Peeli Dori wanted to put forward their take on it as everybody else has done.
